2026 Summer · Featured Program
Kodomo Edu × Hanahau'oli Hawaii Summer Collaboration Camp 2026
A week spent alongside local children in Hawaii, built around a theme both Japanese and Hawaiian island cultures share deeply — respect for nature. Children and adults each learn from their own vantage point, and share the experience together as a family.
About Hanahau'oli School. Founded in 1918 on Makiki Street in Honolulu, Hanahau'oli is a highly regarded progressive school with over 100 years of history. It values children thinking, discussing, and expressing themselves, and grounds its learning in nature and culture.
-
1-Day Pre-Program
A hands-on program learning Hawaiian culture, nature, and values directly from local hosts — Hawaiian language, making Hawaiian food, Hawaiian music, nature observation, plant crafts, and water play (at a private home in Honolulu's Manoa neighborhood, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM). Open to Summer School participants; siblings may be able to join too, so please ask us.
-
5-Day Summer School
At Hanahau'oli School, alongside local children, inquiry learning on the theme of "respect for nature and natural-material culture" — using Japanese washi paper and Hawaiian kapa (bark cloth) as teaching materials to explore what these two island cultures share (8:00 AM–4:00 PM; the final day includes a family-sharing session). Grades 1–4.
-
2-Day Parent Seminar
A special workshop for parents and educators at century-old Hanahau'oli School, on nurturing children's curiosity and the ideas behind experiential, progressive education (at the Hanahau'oli School Pavilion, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM). No education background required.
Open to Grades 1–4 (siblings may be able to join the Pre-Program too, so please ask us). Space is limited.
